Steven Garrick and His Party Twisters - Come On Everybody, Let's Twist

UPDATE: It's been re-upped!

This album is a cash grab. But really, before Rock & Roll became thought of as an art form (around Pet Sounds/Sgt. Peppers) it was probably more worth your while to identify what wasn't done with money as the primary focus than what was. Chubby Checker's version of the twist set a huge gravy train in motion with so many people wanting to take a ride. Plenty of groups tried to fill a niche in another dumbass dance move like The Frug. This album went straight for the honey hole, to the point where the artists' name isn't even on the front cover.

And I like their approach. Here we have 12 instrumentals that try to expand twisting to whatever ridiculous activity you may be enjoying. Chew gum to the Doublemint Twist! Do the Scientwist in your laboratory! Bullies, intimidate the puny to the Intimitwist(or is it meant for intimate situations?)

It's no surprise the album hasn't found its way into the rock & roll history books yet. That's because those books are horseshit. But also because these are pretty straightforward twistin'. No memorable hooks, though some pretty impressive use of stereo. Some of these, especially the Astrotwist, wouldn't be too out of place in a Las Vegas Grind et. al. compilation, though I wouldn't really say these are raw or raunchy... just simple, well done and enjoyable twistin' tunes.

Anywho, here you go

I just found this record in a vintage record store while I was in FLA. I paid $9 bux for it and love it. But what is it worth!?

I have no idea, though to be honest I doubt it's much. Nothing on popsike about it and these twisting things don't tend to fetch that much unless there's something really crazy about them. But I put them up anyway because of what that second commenter said

I like this one too. I have tried to find out who Steven Garrick is. Can anyone provide any info? The small vocal parts on this record have me curious.

My Dad, Steven (Sandy) Garrick, made this record. I never knew about it until after he died and the Texas Lottery contacted me to ask if they could use one of the songs on their TV commercial! I think I asked them for $2000 which they paid me for it.

What else can I tell you about my Dad. He was Musical Director for Stars on Ice for 7 years in Toronto, Canada so I got to meet lots of music acts who appeared on this variety show growing up.

In his later years he started writing amazing music based on The Urantia Book, a religious philosophy, which you can actually hear online here:

He passed on about 18 years ago in Sweden where my Mother is from. She lives on Vancouver Island and a big band there is using his big band arrangements.

He also went by Sandy Garrick and Sandy Alexander.

email me at jinjeetalifero@gmail.com for more info.

If anyone finds this or any other albums with Steven Garrick, Sandy Garrick, or Sandy Alexander (all his stage names - I guess in those days you could only sign with one label and having all these names allowed him to work on more albums with various labels!) --- I would like to buy them!
jinjeetalifero@gmail.com - his daughter, Jinjee

I see the name Larry Lucie on guitar, I assume he is the same guitarist better known as Lawrence Lucie, a veteran of the big band and jazz scene in the 1930’s and ‘40’s. The 1950’s found him working sessions in NYC, leading some of them and dabbling in independent small record labels. At the time of this recording, he would be the veteran in this session, and the most recognizable name. I can’t help but think he had heavy involvement and influence here.

Golden Tone thought enough of the album to submit a copy to Billboard Magazine for review, which was published March 10, 1962
